Sinks

Our Tempered Glass Sinks are extremely durable and designed to adjust to fluctuating temperatures of hot and cold.

12mm, 15mm, 17mm, and 19mm indicate the thickness of the glass itself. Please note that durability of the sinks does not correlate to the thickness of the glass. They are all equally durable.

Most multi-color toned sinks are handcrafted and therefore shade and color of the glass may vary.

Yes, drains and rings from reputable manufacturers will be compatible with most glass vessel sinks.

A standard Undermount Sink is recessed into the countertop and requires an undermount faucet. A Ceramic Vessel Sink will require a standard above the counter installation and must be accompanied by a vessel faucet. Ceramic Sinks are also available for above the counter installation, but the base of the sink contains a hole for an undermount faucet. Pedestal Ceramic Sinks require a floor mount installation and work best with undermount faucets. Wall-mount Ceramic Sinks also work best with undermount faucets.

Porcelain is a Ceramic material made by heating raw materials, generally including clay, in the form of kaolin in a kiln at temperatures between 1,200 °C (2,192 °F) and 1,400 °C (2,552 °F). The toughness, strength, and translucence of porcelain is the result of the formation of glass and mullite within the material as it is fired at high temperatures.

Ceramic is not only extremely durable, stain, scratch and chip resistant, but it is also one of the easiest sink materials to maintain.

Care and Maintenance of Ceramic Sink

For routine cleaning, nothing more is required than warm water and a mild detergent. While infrequent maintenance is required to protect and maintain the glossy finish of a ceramic sink, the use of harsh chemicals is not usually required.

What are Gauges and Grades of Stainless Steel Kitchen Sinks?

There are two important elements that you'll see on specs for stainless kitchen sinks: chromium and nickel. They enhance the quality of the steel, giving it strength and corrosion resistance, which is essential to the function of a kitchen sink.

Gauge represents the thickness of the stainless steel kitchen sink. Gauge ranges from 16" to 20" thickness. We recommend 16g sinks, since they are going to be the most durable option, and will most likely outlast your kitchen. Stainless sinks are usually labeled in a ratio like “18:8,” which refers to the amount of chromium and nickel contained in the steel. In this case the steel is 18% chromium and 8% nickel.

The higher the percentages of these elements that are present, the better the grade of stainless steel. The series number generally designates the grade of the steel. Stainless steel sinks are usually in the "300" series (specifically 304) because they are made from good quality steel with 18:8 to 20:10 chromium/nickel content.

Stainless steel sinks can be fitted with sound insulation and coatings to help deaden sound. Insulation can also reduce condensation buildup on the bottom of the sink that sometimes leads to moisture problems with the base cabinet that the sink rests in. Not all stainless sinks come with this feature but it's especially worth consideration for thinner gauge sinks to reduce the metallic sound produced when they are struck.

Stainless steel does not stain, corrode, or rust as easily as ordinary steel. However, it is susceptible to rust staining by other objects found in the kitchen (ex. cast iron pan left in the kitchen sink will stain the sink).

Stainless steel contains adivitional elements such as chromium or nickel that form a protective layer on the exterior of the kitchen sink.

Improper maintenance, abrasive cleaners, excessive scrubbing, and hard water build-up can all damage the protective layer, making the sink susceptible to rusting.

Kitchen Sink Grids with rubber padiving serve as a great protection against scratches and rust spots.

In order to eliminate stains and rust spots, use a non-abrasive or mild-abrasive cleaner. Remember that when applying force or using any abrasive cleaner, you should always follow the direction of the grain on the surface. Do not scrub in the opposite direction, or against the grain, as you may scratch the surface of the sink. When finished, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a towel or a soft cloth.

Bathroom Sinks

You would require a tall faucet anywhere from 12" - 13" height. Spout reach, the distance from the center of the faucet body to the aerator, is an important consideration. Make certain that the spout reach will be sufficient to work with the existing vessel sink.

The opening in the back of the faucet is used during the pull-up drain installation (the included metal rod gets inserted into the opening to operate the opening and closing of the pull-up drain). Considering that most faucets and drains are sold separately, always refer to the model of the sink as well as the faucet when considering purchase options.

Waterfall Faucets

Glass Discs can easily be replaced. Kraus Waterfall Faucets DO NOT require any tools for the glass disc replacement.

Kraus offers complimentary waterlines with most faucet models, otherwise we suggest having your licensed plumbing professional procure them for you.

1” Reversible Socket Wrench, provided with all Kraus Waterfall Faucets.

Kitchen Faucets

Most Kitchen Faucets are made from Solid Brass, and then plated with Chrome, Satin Nickel, ORB, or other finishes, but we also offer kitchen faucets made from Solid Stainless Steel. It is important not to confuse the Satin Nickel Finish, which is plated brass, with Solid Stainless Steel Construction. Stainless steel does not stain, corrode, or rust as easily as ordinary steel.

Standard hole size is 1 3/8” for a single hole faucet.

While many faucets may easily be installed by you, we always recommend that you hire a certified plumber for all installations.

At Kraus USA we guarantee that all replacement parts are available for purchase for a period of 5 years. For further information please contact us directly at 1-800-775-0703

Some Kitchen Faucets that do not have a pullout sprayer may be connected to a portable dishwasher. Pull out faucets should never be connected to portable dishwashers because potential pressure fluctuations during washing cycles cause hose ruptures or leaks.

Care & Maintenance

A Kraus Stainless Steel sink is a finely crafted fixture, comprised of the finest materials available. As a combination of 16-gauge thickness for immense durability, and type 304 steel for corrosion resistance and rustproofing, our sinks are incomparable. Like most other fine products, they do require light maintenance to continue optimal performance. If you ever see white calcification on your sink surface it is generally the result of minerals in your local water supply. It can be easily wiped away using the prescribed cleaning methods below. Stainless steel sinks should be rinsed and dried after each use, and wiped with a mild cleaner approximately once per week. We recommend Bio-Clean for cleaning all Kraus products.

DO’s:
Lightly rinse and wipe down your sink after use. The Kraus dishtowel included with your sink is perfect for maintaining your fixture. Leaving standing water in the sink can cause discoloration. Once each week, use a mild cleaner and a sponge to wipe your sink and remove any unseen buildup. For sanitation purposes, we recommend regularly disinfecting your sink with a light bleach solution, pre-packaged disinfectant wipes, or other mild anti-bacterial solutions. Ensure that you thoroughly rinse your sink to alleviate any residue or buildup.

DONT’s:
Using metal scouring pads on your sink can not only cause rust and scratches, but can also lead to discoloring on your sink’s surface. Do not use metal scouring pads. Avoid placing a rubber mat on your sink bottom. It provides a perfect environment for cultivating harmful bacteria, which can not only instigate illness but can also tarnish your sink’s color and finish. Do not leave standing water in your sink, especially when it may contain strong staining pigments such as coffee or tea. Chlorine-based chemicals (such as bleach) should not be left in your sink, and should be heavily rinsed from the surface.

Kraus Ceramic Sinks are extremely durable. They do however require a certain amount of maintenance to ensure their longevity. At the end of heavy use, or on a daily basis, the sink should be wiped with a soapy sponge to remove any sort of chemical residues (e.g. tooth paste, mouth wash, etc.). For routine cleaning, nothing more is required than warm water and a mild detergent. While infrequent maintenance is required to protect and maintain the glossy finish of a ceramic sink, for the most part the use of harsh chemicals is not required.

DO’s:
Lightly rinse and wipe down your sink after use. Once each week, use a mild cleaner and soft sponge to wipe your sink and remove any unseen buildup. To prevent any water spots from minerals in your water, wipe your sink with an absorbent towel or chamois once finished with cleaning/use.

DONT’s:
Using metal scouring pads on your sink can not only cause chips and scratches, but can also lead to discoloring on your sink’s surface. Do not use metal scouring pads. Though ceramic sinks are incredibly strong, they can chip if struck with hard metal or other stone objects.

Minimal maintenance is required to ensure the continual performance of your Glass Vessel Sink. We suggest cleaning your sink after each use with a soapy sponge, then rinsing thoroughly with warm water and drying it with a towel or a soft cloth. Keep in mind that a glass sink is similar to a wine glass, and anything impure on the inside will leave streaks that are highly visible on the outside. Do not be alarmed if you notice stains on your glass sink, minerals in your water supply sometimes cause buildup. In order to eliminate these stain spots, use a non-abrasive or mild-abrasive cleaner as mentioned earlier. Remember not to apply force while cleaning your glass sink. Do not scrub the glass, as you may scratch the surface of the sink. When finished, rinse thoroughly with warm water and dry with a towel or a soft cloth.

DO’s:
Lightly rinse and wipe down your sink after use, with a soapy sponge if possible. To prevent any water spots from minerals in your water, wipe your sink with an absorbent towel or chamois once finished with cleaning/use. Persistent grime can often be removed using a standard glass cleaner and paper towels.

DONT’s:
Using metal, or abrasive scouring pads on your sink can not only cause scratching, but can also lead to discoloring on your sink’s finish. Do not use metal scouring pads. Though glass sinks are incredibly strong, they can chip if struck with hard metal or other stone objects.

Your Kraus product is designed for a lifetime of use, with light maintenance. Basic cleaning involves wiping the faucet with hot water and then drying. Regular attention will prevent buildup of stains and grime.

We do NOT recommend using any type of commercial household cleaner on our products. Variations in the chemical formulas of these products can make them harmful to your sink or faucet’s finish. We recommend Bio-Clean for cleaning all Kraus fixtures and accessories.

Kraus fully stands behind the integrity of its products. These recommended guidelines are meant to adivress the majority of maintenance concerns.
